With the advent of the digital age, the confidentiality of private data plays a special role - because today absolutely everything is stored on a smartphone - from contacts of friends and colleagues to bank card numbers. The built-in ability to create hidden notes on Xiaomi smartphones is one of the facets of protecting important information. Today I’ll show you how to create, find and open protected entries using my Redmi 4X as an example.

How to hide notes?

So, we need the Notes app, which comes pre-installed on any Xiaomi phone. Let's go into it

A page with your notes will open - long press on any of them, after which you will be able to select several notes at once. Put a check mark on those that need to be hidden, and then click on the lock icon in the bottom menu bar

All - now they have become invisible and are not displayed in the general list

How to find hidden notes and see?

An inscription about using a password to protect personal data will appear - click on “OK” and enter a text value, a pattern, or put your finger on the fingerprint scanner. After this, Xiaomi's hidden notes will open - you can now enter and read them

It happens that the owner hides records, and then wants to view them. This is where problems can arise, because there is no corresponding button to display. The article will tell you how to view hidden notes on a Xiaomi smartphone and what actions you need to perform for this.

How to take a note

Creating an entry in Xiaomi without hiding it is very simple.

Just open the corresponding application called “Notes” and click on the “+” icon in the lower right corner of the screen. After this, you can immediately proceed to creating a note. You can design them however you like and even insert pictures for convenience. After creating the necessary entries, do not forget to click the “Done” button so that the changes are saved.

The application has an automatic note function, which will be very useful for people whose day is filled with a lot of events. In this case, irrelevant or past ones can be crossed out so that priority entries are brought to the fore.

All created records, not hidden from prying eyes, are located very conveniently. You don't need to open the app to see them. All you have to do is swipe across the screen from left to right.

How to hide a note

In Xiaomi, hiding a note is as easy as creating one. You need to open “Notes” and then click on the finished entry. Here you will need to click on the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the display. A menu will open in which you should click on the “Hide” line. After this, the note will disappear. In addition, it can be hidden by holding your finger on the desired event for a few seconds.

How to see a hidden note

Xiaomi's hidden posts feature will actually hide all the contents of posts, preventing other people from viewing them. However, many owners, hiding notes, then do not understand how they can be opened, thereby returning them back. At a loss, they try to search for text files in the device’s memory, looking through dozens of folders to do this. But in the end, they still become convinced that these attempts did not bear fruit. In fact, everything can be done much simpler, all you need to do is:

Upon completion of the process, access to the records will open.

Seeing notes in Xiaomi is not a problem at all, and all user difficulties arise only out of ignorance. An additional protection method in the form of a hidden unlock menu only confirms this and shows its effectiveness. Xiaomi owners themselves can only study their devices in more detail in order to use their functionality 100 percent and eliminate even the smallest chance of failures.

This really useful feature has become available to users with the new MIUI 7.1.1.0 version update. This is very simple to do and does not require much time. But the main thing is that now you can store secret data and documents on your smartphone or tablet without using any third-party applications. If you still haven't received the new update, you can easily download it from this page.

So, you have decided to hide some very important information on your Mi device. Where to begin?

1. Enter "File Explorer"

2. Now press your finger on the screen, hold for a few seconds, when the “Creating hidden folder” option appears, pull your finger down.

3. Now you need to secure access. You can use an existing password, code and lock combination, or create a new one.

4. After entering the folder, you can safely add files; select the location where the necessary documents are located in order to hide them. For example, it could be an SD card.

5. Now you can select important files to save. They will be securely hidden, and no one but you will be able to open them.

If, over time, your content is no longer classified, tap and hold each individual file or folder to remove it from hidden folders and move it to the correct location. Additionally, you can sort and update your data and create a new folder to keep your materials organized.

Details about MIUI 8 changes for Redmi Note 3

New font - Mi Lanting

*MIUI 7 font example on top, MIUI 8 example on bottom

MIUI 8 from the Chinese developer comes with a new font called “Mi Lanting”. “What difference does it make?” you may say, but after a few days of use you will probably notice that even small changes make a difference. The new MIUI 8 font optimizes space in headers and status bars, making large fonts look sleeker and more elegant. We liked this font so much that we installed it earlier, even for MIUI 7. The changes are more visible if you use hieroglyphs.

Lock screen

* MIUI 7 on the left, MIUI 8 on the right

After updating to MIUI 8, the lock screen wallpaper has also been changed. MIUI 8 uses a gradient of rainbow colors and a diamond-shaped Lock Screen design. You may notice that the watch has also been redesigned.

Phone and calls

* MIUI 7 on 1 and 3 photos, MIUI 8 on 2 and 4

The Phone app has also seen some obvious changes. The dialing layout in MIUI 8 is larger than in MIUI 7, the top border uses green instead of the standard gray, and the search bar is now available under the Recents tab. Apart from this, MIUI 8 displays more contacts than MIUI 7 when the dial pad is minimized. MIUI developers have taken extra care in providing us with the best features and user experience with their new ROM version.

The calling interface has also been changed. MIUI 8 uses a round contact photo icon instead of a half-page photo as was the case in MIUI 7. The speaker icon has moved into the text in the lower left corner, and its previous position is now occupied by a “note” icon, which is incredibly convenient for us, since it has become possible quickly write something down during a conversation. When you select the speaker mode, the background color changes slightly from lighter to darker. MIUI Developers have also added improved animation effects for accepting and ending calls to the new design. Well, in our opinion, these are quite good improvements to the Phone application.

Contacts

In MIUI 8, the Contacts app looks much cleaner and tidier than in MIUI 7. The gray background has been replaced with white, and the Add button has been made floating so that more contacts are now displayed in one window. Forms for entering parameters when adding a new contact (Name, Company and Position) have been expanded to a full page.

MIUI 7 on the left, MIUI 8 on the right

Contact details in MIUI 8 have also been optimized. “Options” has been moved for a clearer presentation, and the “Edit” option has been placed as a floating button in the lower right corner. In addition, a “History” option has been added to contact information. And despite this, contact data in MIUI 8 still looks more spacious than in MIUI 7. Instead of the same color, each contact card will be assigned one of 7 random designs. 6 other options are given below:

Theme Store

The theme store has also been optimized in MIUI 8. You can now switch to the Wallpapers, Ringtones, or Fonts tab by simply swiping left or right on the title. The top bar will change color when switching between headings.

* MIUI 7 on the 1st and 3rd photos, MIUI 8 on the 2nd and 4th

On the Theme Settings page, MIUI 8 has reduced the number of options to 8 items. However, all the settings from MIUI 7 remain in place, except for the “Notification” option. Although we can still set a notification using the Ringtone page. The “Lock Screen” and “Home Screen” items are now combined in the “Wallpaper” section. Below the options there is also a shortcut key for backing up our current theme.

MIUI 8 has also changed the way the theme is previewed when you select it. Now, instead of scrolling up the page to select Delete, we can easily delete a topic by clicking on its top right corner. Additionally, the designer's name, theme size and price are also displayed above the screenshots.

Safety

* MIUI 7 on the 1st and 3rd photos, MIUI 8 on the 2nd and 4th

Unfortunately, some features have been removed from MIUI 8. For example, "Data Saver" (not that it functions well), as well as battery modes. Now we can no longer switch different profiles to save power consumption, and in our opinion this is a small drawback of the new system. The "Power Timer" is hidden in the settings, which can be accessed in the top right corner of the battery menu.

The battery saver option in MIUI 8 has become easier compared to MIUI 7 as battery profiles have been removed. However, we have a new battery analyzer feature that is available in the battery menu. Just click the "Analyze Battery Usage" button and you will get detailed information about the battery status (as shown in the 3rd and 4th screenshot above).

Camera

The camera app also gets a new, streamlined interface. Now, adjusting the camera and effects will no longer be done by moving the slider left or right. All these modes have been redesigned into small interface icons. With the new MIUI 8 we will also get more new cool camera effects. However, the simplest way to switch between the rear and front camera by sliding up or down has been removed. Honestly, we think this feature was really handy and would love to see it back in MIUI 8!

At the same time, the animation for switching between camera and video modes has also changed. We prefer the new animations of MIUI 8 as they look more minimalistic and slick compared to MIUI 7

Gallery

The gallery now displays the total number of selected photos. This is in addition to the fact that this number is already shown at the top. Well, the main thing is that it does no harm.

Dictaphone

The voice recorder interface has been improved, although all functions remain the same.

The new sea blue theme suits the wave pattern of the audio recording very well.

Calendar

No new features have been added to the calendar, but its interface has become more interactive. The top bar now changes color when switching between months, and the current date turns into a floating icon that slides down when viewing a different day or month.

Calculator

* MIUI 7 on the left, MIUI 8 on the right

The Calculator app in MIUI 8 has been significantly improved compared to the previous version. The display became larger and finally a percent sign (%) was added. In addition, there are many new calculation options that are hidden in the icon in the upper left corner.

Now we have a currency converter, mortgage calculator, tax calculator, scientific calculator and other functions that will certainly help many in mathematics and just in everyday life. We think that a currency converter is a really useful thing, because often when traveling you need to compare prices. This feature will also be useful for those who follow the currency market.

Notes

They've also done a lot of work on the Notes app and have improved it significantly.

The notes list has changed and now appears in a grid and timeline format (screenshot below). As you write a note, its background changes to the color of the full page.

Besides this, we can now apply some special themes to our notes and make them more creative. The downside is that these themes do not apply to the notes list widget on the home screen. In addition, the style of the notes list can be presented in the form of a grid or timeline; to change it, you need to click on the icon in the upper right corner.

In addition, we can now hide our notes in a secret place and protect them with a password. To do this, you just need to pull down the list of notes and the hidden folder will be available.

Settings page

The settings page of MIUI 8 has been optimized, using a dark gray color as the theme. Some modifications have been made, and now the “Blocking” and “Access” options have appeared on the settings page. Also on this page there are two new MIUI 8 functions: “Second Space” and “App Clone”. These new features will be presented below.

Status bar (Status bar)

The status bar in MIUI 8 has been redesigned to look like a card deck, which looks very cool. The length of the status bar depends on the number of notification types that exist. In addition, the color of the status bar will change according to the current weather, meaning it will turn green in sunny weather and blue in cloudy weather. Thus, we can easily know the current weather with just one glance at the status bar! The animation of the status bar moving down and up is flawless, smooth, and simply mesmerizing. This is, of course, another strong argument in favor of the new MIUI 8.

You don't really like the new bar status style and want to return the old one? No problem, just go to Settings > Notifications & Status Bar, go to the switch layout selection tab and select Individual. Well that's it, the regular MIUI 7 status bar is back.

Recent

There are also some improvements to the recently used apps list. The music player control has been placed above the recent apps list, making use of empty space more efficiently. A shortcut for switching viewing modes of recently opened applications (in the form of shortcuts / in the form of pages) has been added in the upper right corner, therefore, you no longer need to use 2 fingers to enlarge or reduce icons. Additionally, we can also notice that the overall layout has been optimized so that there is more space available in the list for open apps.

Updates

* MIUI 7 on the left, MIUI 8 on the right

MIUI 8 now uses a circular design in its update app (unlike MIUI 7 which used triangles). The new interface also gives us a greater sense of spaciousness.

Optimized user interface

* MIUI 7 on the left, MIUI 8 on the right

There are also some obvious changes in the MIUI 8 UI. The watch's "minutes" are now aligned with the "hours" and the overall size of the hours has been reduced. The Lock Screen icon has received an updated design. If you notice, the Google search bar in MIUI 8 has also shrunk a bit compared to MIUI 7. This makes MIUI 8 look more spacious than MIUI 7.

New features in MIUI 8

Editing tool

The photo and video editing tool is no longer simple in MIUI 8. It now comes with many new options, resources and features. In addition to photo editing, you can now make edits to your videos using a video editing tool. We can simply change the effect of the video, trim it and even add text or music to it. This is really useful for making short videos using your smartphone in a matter of minutes.

Long screenshot

Another amazing feature of MIUI 8 is long screenshot! Now we can take screenshots from our phone at a more professional level. Once the screenshot is taken, it will "float" in the top right corner of the screen and we can further edit it by clicking on it and dragging! Let us remind you that a long screenshot is only applicable for pages that scroll. Additionally, once a screenshot is taken, we can directly edit or forward it while it's floating. Who would have thought that this little feature (screenshot) could be further improved to become something so cool and useful?

Context menu

Everyone knows that a similar function has already been implemented in smartphones from Apple and Samsung. But in MIUI 8, floating icons have become much easier than you think. It provides up to 5 shortcuts, and also allows you to select applications in which the menu will be hidden. The icon will become almost transparent if it is not used for 2 seconds. That's why MIUI called it "Context Menu". You can find this option in Settings > Advanced Options > Context Menu.

Second Space

There is another new feature in MIUI 8 called Extra Space. When activated, we will get another space with completely new applications and elements. This is similar to the window on our PCs where you can select a different user. Once you set a password for your second workspace, you can access different spaces by entering their password on the lock screen. This is very useful if your friends have a habit of checking your phone.

Cloning applications

Now, in MIUI 8, we can create another copy of the application. This feature is called app cloning. Why is this innovation needed? Here's the main reason: you can use your social apps under two different accounts at the same time! The app data has been split into two parts so that you can now use two similar apps with different accounts. The cloned app has a yellow symbol in the lower left corner.

New scanner

Now it has been expanded with more features that are truly useful in our lives! The scanner currently has 6 options to choose from. The first option is a regular scanner, which is used to scan QR codes, the second option is a shopping scanner. Using this option, it is possible to take a photo of a product and find a similar one in online stores. It is really useful for users all over the world if you know how to use the internet to shop in your country.

The third feature is a built-in translator. We really like it because it works really effectively and is very cool! Currently, this translator is capable of translating up to 7 languages: English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, German and Korean. But most languages are translated into Chinese, since we used the Chinese version of the firmware in this review.

A fourth option can be used to solve complex math problems, but we haven't tested it yet.

The fifth version of the scanner is used to read business data from business cards and save them as a contact in the phone. It may take you a few tries to get the data correct, but it is usually not 100% accurate. So just save the most correct one and edit it a little, it will save your time anyway compared to entering the data manually.

The last option is the real highlight of MIUI 8. We can use the scanning application to save any document. After photographing a document from any angle, you can crop it and edit it. After making and confirming all the changes, we will receive our document in a flat form, we will be able to convert it to black and white and even extract text from it! The only downside is that the scanner can only extract text in one language at the moment. In any case, this is a super powerful MIUI 8 tool, the analogues of which cost a lot of money. We are sure you will love MIUI 8 more with this built-in feature!

conclusions

Overall, it must be said that the leap from MIUI 7 to MIUI 8 was much greater than from MIUI 6 to MIUI 7. MIUI 8 comes with many great new features and space optimization, which will make our lives much smarter and more convenient . Although people still complain about the Android version, you will surely be happy with these MIUI updates.
