Tweaking the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus: Pro Tips. Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus: new features and features Samsung s8 parameters

Samsung introduced its flagships Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in Russia. The presentation of new smartphones took place in a hotel with the worst Ritz-Carlton staff and gathered a lot of well-known journalists, bloggers and media people, among whom were Valeria with Prigozhin, Sobchak with Vitorgan, Sergey Lazarev, Vlad Lisovets, Alena Shishkova, Anna Khilkevich, Pavel Artemyev, Natalya Medvedeva and others. The “chips” of the new gadgets are a bezel-less screen, a body rounded on all sides, an iris scanner and a smart Bixby assistant. Of course, as always, in the flagships of Samsung we are waiting for one of the best cameras, top-end hardware and a high price. - The launch of a new generation of flagships is a very important step for Samsung, - says Arkady Graf, head of Samsung Mobile in Russia. – Galaxy S8 and S8+ will mark the beginning of a new stage in the development of the brand's mobile devices. With its cutting-edge functionality and unparalleled design, the new smartphones will redefine the mobile experience and open up truly limitless possibilities for users.

Samsung Galaxy S8 screen

The screen of the Galaxy S8 has a diagonal of 5.8 inches, while the Galaxy S8 + has a 6.2-inch screen, and occupy almost 85% of the front panel. This was achieved through the use of a non-standard aspect ratio of 18.5: 9 and rounded edges, which visually completely remove the side frames of the screen.

This solution allows you to consume more content and at the same time reduces the width of the phone, making the smartphone more comfortable to use with one hand. The resolution of both models is 2960x1440 pixels. Both sides of the phones are covered with Gorilla Glass 5, which makes them quite shockproof.

Samsung Galaxy S8 design

All edges are rounded as much as possible, due to which the phones resemble remnants, but at the same time they lie perfectly in the hand. In addition, the case of smartphones are protected from dust, and you can shoot video on them even under water (IP68). Due to the increase in the screen area, the keys under it had to be transferred to the display, and, therefore, the main Samsung "chip" - the mechanical "Home" key - was abandoned.

However, it was not possible to completely refuse, and now the zone in the center reacts to pressing even when the display is off, accompanying it with vibration. But the fingerprint scanner had to be transferred to the rear panel, where it is easy to confuse it with the camera lens. The iris scanner has become an alternative to it, not to say that it works more conveniently, but as an alternative it will fit.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Performance

The new smartphones combine high performance and high-speed data transfer. The devices are based on the market's first 10-nanometer 8-core Exynos 8895 processor. In addition to it, there are 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of permanent memory, expandable via microSD. It also supports gigabit speeds in LTE and Wi-Fi networks. Of course, no one began to refuse all other wireless modules, including NFC.

Samsung Galaxy S8 battery

Batteries for smartphones are 3000 and 3500 mAh, respectively, and, according to the developers, are able to provide them with energy for 2 days in active mode. There is support for wireless charging. But the main thing is that now all batteries undergo an 8-step test, and, theoretically, should not repeat the sad experience of Note 7.

Samsung Galaxy S8 camera

Traditionally, Galaxy smartphones are equipped with good optics. The front camera here is 8 MP, with F1.7 aperture and intelligent autofocus, and the only (Samsung did not follow the trends) main 12-megapixel camera with F1.7 aperture uses Dual Pixel technology to get the highest quality and clear images even at low light levels.

Soft Samsung Galaxy S8

Not bypassed innovations and the software part. Now rules everything Android 7.0 with improvements like the ability to scroll through the list of installed applications by simply swiping from the bottom of the home screen. Manufacturers are betting on the Bixby intelligent assistant, which even received a separate physical key. A virtual "friend" will help you interact with available services and applications using the touch screen, voice or text commands. By being able to understand context, Bixby will be able to offer users personalized assistance depending on what information about their interests and location is received by the system.

Bixby also allows you to make purchases, search for images and get detailed information about nearby places using image recognition technology: just point the camera at your friend’s favorite blouse, and the assistant will immediately write where and for how much you can buy the same one. Unfortunately, all this does not work in Russia yet, and in order to take full advantage of the new “feature”, you will have to wait for the new year.

Accessories Samsung Galaxy S8

The developers also offer to use not one smartphone, but the whole ecosystem. Gear VR glasses will help you immerse yourself in virtual reality by controlling the bundled joystick in it. The Gear 360's camera lets you create panoramic 4K videos, 15MP photos and live video streaming. But the most interesting addition, of course, will be the Samsung DeX docking station, which allows you to use your smartphone as a desktop computer, however, you will have to connect a monitor, keyboard and mouse to it.

The services already loved by many have also been developed: Samsung Health can create an individual training plan and supports integration into social networks, and the Samsung Pay payment service turns a smartphone into a digital wallet that can be used almost anywhere credit or debit cards are accepted.

Prices for Samsung Galaxy S8

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones will go on sale April 28 and will be available in a variety of colors, including black diamond, mystical amethyst and yellow topaz. The set will come with cool headphones. And those who make a 100% pre-order payment will receive a Gear 360 camera as a gift. A lot of “smart” and beautiful cases will also go on sale. Well, in the end, about the sad: the price for the Galaxy S8 will be 54,990 rubles, and for the S8 + - 59,990 rubles.

At today's Unpacked 2017 presentation, Samsung introduced two new devices: Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. They have a unique design, as they do not resemble any of the existing smartphones. The new flagships have received a number of new functions and features, which we want to talk about first.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus represent a new era of smartphones with huge screens, thin bezels on all sides and relatively compact size.

New functions and features of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus:

1. Frameless screen

In keeping with the latest trends, Seoulites have abandoned the standard 16:9 screen aspect ratio in favor of a new, more elongated 18.5:9. The company made the top and bottom edges as thin as possible, but it had to move the fingerprint scanner to the back. This means that Samsung has increased the diagonal, but the dimensions of the new products have remained the same, that is, like last year's generation.

2. Increased resolution and screen-to-body ratio

Both the flagship 5.8-inch S8 and 6.2-inch S8 Plus are equipped with Super AMOLED panels with the same resolution of 2960x1440 pixels (WQHD+). The screen-to-body ratio is an impressive 83%. As it was said at the presentation, the panels of the new generation have 500 thousand more pixels than those installed in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

3. Bixby voice assistant

Google, Microsoft and Amazon already have a virtual assistant, so Samsung decided to introduce its own solution. The flagships of the new generation of the company received a voice assistant called Bixby, to call which you can use voice commands or a physical button. The AI-powered solution will play a major role in the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, as well as many other products from the company.

Bixby is able to understand the context in various applications, help you make purchases, and also integrates all the services and wearable gadgets available to you.

4. On-screen buttons with tactile feedback

Due to the new frameless screen, which Samsung called Infinity Display, there was no room on the front panel for mechanical navigation buttons. The company replaced them with virtual ones, and the fingerprint scanner migrated to the back of the case.

To make up for the lack of a physical home button, the South Korean manufacturer's engineers used a handy tactile feedback technology. It gives the user the feeling of pressing a button, which has a positive effect on the experience of using a smartphone.

5. Updated user interface

In addition to the appearance of new products, Seoul also updated the design of the user interface. They have changed how the notification bar looks like, making it more minimalistic than before. The theme store has even more icons that fit the overall style. And the application menu in the standard launcher opens with a swipe up, like on a Google Pixel.

6. Iris scanner and face recognition

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus carry over the iris scanner that first appeared on the Note 7. Both phones support face recognition to unlock the screen.

7. Improved front camera

Samsung has not only increased the resolution of the front camera on the new Galaxy devices to 8 MP, but also added autofocus, which will allow you to instantly focus on faces.

8. Headphones from AKG included

As announced at the Unpacked 2017 presentation, each Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphone will come with headphones from AKG. We cannot say anything definite about the sound quality, but the products of this brand have long established themselves in the market. Last year, the Seoulites acquired Harman International, which owns AKG Acoustics, and this is how their collaboration began.

9. New colors

The gadgets announced today will appear on store shelves in five different colors: black, silver, gray, gold and blue. It is not known what shades will be available to Russian consumers.

Samsung has packed a crazy amount of features into the Galaxy S8 and S8+. It's far from the insane level of software bloat we've seen on some Samsung devices, but there are plenty of options here to explore. You can tap menus for hours hoping to stumble upon all the cool stuff this phone can do. Or you can read this guide to learn all about the best tips and tweaks to get the most out of your new Galaxy S8.

Watch the video review of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus:

Customize navigation buttons

Samsung has finally figured it out with the times and moved to on-screen navigation buttons, which means you can customize them to your liking. The default layout is similar to other Samsung phones, with a back button on the right and a browse button on the left. You can change it to the standard Android back-home-browsing layout by selecting "Settings" > "Display" > "Navigation Bar". You can also change the background color of the navigation bar here. Remember, the Home button is pressure sensitive. It works with a hard press even when the display is off. At the bottom of the navigation bar menu, you can change the level of pressure required to trigger the button.

Set up or turn off Hello Bixby

Samsung's Bixby smart assistant isn't very smart yet, so you probably won't be using it. At the same time, when you press the physical Bixby button, a screen called "Hello Bixby" appears. You will also find this screen to the left of the main panel of the main screen. It's a bit like Google Now, but not as good. You can customize Hello Bixby to show you more useful information - by default, it has things you don't need, like random Giphy animations and suggested themes in the Samsung store. Click the gear icon in the top right corner to edit cards and customize what they display. If you don't want to use Bixby on the home screen, you can enter edit mode by pressing and holding the spacebar, then turn off the toggle above the Bixby panel.

Get rid of the icon frames

The icons on the Samsung home screen, all of it - both "squircles" and third-party applications that you install, will be sharpened in white squircle frames. It's consistent, but not very attractive. To get rid of icon frames, go to "Settings" > "Display" > "Icons". Change it to "Icons Only" and you're done.

Reorganize apps

The default sort in the Galaxy S8's apps folder is "custom", which is a fancy way of saying "you'll never find anything". You should immediately change it to alphabetical order by opening the folder, pressing the menu button, and selecting Sort. Unlike previous versions of the Samsung home screen, the apps folder will remain in alphabetical order even when you install new apps.

Faster unlock via iris scanner

Samsung decided to put the Galaxy S8's fingerprint sensor in a really awkward place on the back of the phone, so you should check out the iris scanner. It works surprisingly well, and you can make it even more user-friendly with a few tweaks. You can add Iris Scanner in Settings > Lock Screen & Security > Iris Scanner. Make sure scanner unlock is enabled so you can unlock your phone by looking at it, then enable "Iris scanner unlock when screen turns on". In this mode, you do not need to swipe the lock screen to enter the iris scan mode. Just wake up your phone by looking at it and it will immediately unlock.

Selecting the Display Calibration Mode

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ have several display calibration modes available in Settings. Default Calibration is an adaptive mode that includes customizable color sliders to adjust colors to look just the way you want them to. Some GS8 owners find the display too red, but you can change that with the sliders. There are also AMOLED photography, AMOLED cinema and Basic modes. Native mode offers the most accurate colors in the sRGB specification, while Adaptive has an extended color gamut.

Change the default volume level

When you press the volume key, the default action is to change the ringer volume. How often do you need to change it? Changing the media volume is more useful and you can set it as the default. Just go to Settings > Sound and vibration. There you will find "Default volume control". Touch it and select "Media".

Set up Always-on display

Samsung's Always-on display feature allows you to see basic information about your phone without waking up. This feature drains the battery a bit, so either turn it off or set it up to make the battery drain more worthwhile. Always-on display is shown in Settings > Lock screen & security > Always-on display. The display style can be changed to different clock, calendar, photo or minimal clock on the edge. On the other hand, Always-on display doesn't always have to be enabled. At the bottom of the settings screen is a toggle for "Always-on display". Turn it off and you can set a schedule to turn it on and off.

Editing the Edge panel

There is no flat version of the Galaxy S8, so it's time to make friends with the Edge Screen. It's a small tab on the right edge of the screen that shows you various shortcuts and tools while shooting. You can customize what you see on the Edge Screen by tapping the gear icon at the bottom or by going to Settings > Display > Edge Screen. The Edge screen can be turned off if you don't want to use it, but set up Edge Panels first. There are almost a dozen panels by default, including a handy clipboard manager and weather. Don't forget to click the menu button in the top right corner to rearrange the panels and edit the Edge Screen. You can make the panel bigger, smaller, more transparent, or even reposition it.

Improved multitasking with Snap Window

The Galaxy S8 runs on Nougat, so it uses the standard Android multi-window system. However, Samsung has added a small bonus in the form of the Snap Window. You'll find the Snap button right next to the split screen button on the app cards in the multitasking interface. Pressing allows you to define a section of your application that will remain at the top of the screen while you use the bottom section for another application. It's ideal for video streaming in Snap Window as it takes up less space and will keep playing even if it loses focus.

Turn the brightness to the maximum

By default, you can access the screen brightness slider from the advanced quick settings, but with one more change, it's even easier to access it. Open quick settings and click the arrow next to the brightness slider. Then toggle the Brightness to Maximum slider and tap Done. The brightness slider now appears below the settings bar at the top of the notification shade.

Dual Audio via Bluetooth

The Galaxy S8 is the first Bluetooth 5.0 phone that comes with a pretty cool twist. The GS8 can stream audio to two different Bluetooth devices at the same time, but the option is fairly hidden. Select "Settings"; "Connections"; Bluetooth; "Menu"; "Double Sound" After enabling this feature, you will be able to pair a second Bluetooth Audio device with your phone. Both will receive the same flow, but one may be slightly delayed.

Use Smart Select

Samsung makes a big deal out of Smart Select on Note devices, but this screen selection and cropping tool is also available on the Galaxy S8. You can access it using the Edge Screen, so add the Smart Select panel first. Smart Select can be used to capture a square or round portion of the screen rather than a full screenshot. These clippings can easily be scanned to text with OCR. It is also possible to make a GIF animation or crop the screen in a floating window. It's not very convenient to use without a stylus, but you can get close enough.

Turn on Download Accelerator

Download Booster is a feature that Samsung released a few years ago and then hid in the menu, never to be seen again. You might want to use it on the Galaxy S8. Download Booster links your LTE and WiFi connection, allowing you to download files over 30MB at faster speeds. It's on the menu Settings > Connections > Other connection settings > Download Booster.

Full screen app settings

The Galaxy S8 has little to no bezel around the display, which comes with an unusual 18.5:9 aspect ratio. This means some apps and games will look odd, either with black bars or interface fragments. The phone tries to guess which setting is correct, but you can always switch between full and not full by opening the multitasking screen and tapping the button in the top right corner of the deck. In addition, there is a complete list of applications and their screen modes in the section "Settings" > "Display" > "Full Screen Apps". Just visit this menu and set the applications to one of the modes without opening them individually.

Setting Energy Saver Options

There are several ways to save power on your Galaxy S8, and they're all conveniently located inside the device management settings. You will find them in the section "Settings" > "Device Maintenance" > "Battery". There are "Medium" and "Maximum" power saving modes, each of which can be changed using user settings. Just choose one of them and click on the Customize link at the top. You can choose the screen resolution, brightness level, CPU limits, enable/disable background mode, etc. To activate the power saving mode, click the "Apply" button instead of "Customize". The medium power saving mode can also be accessed from the quick settings. There is also an advanced section, accessible from the menu button in the top right corner. There you can adjust the application's power monitor by increasing or decreasing the time before the application goes to sleep (other Android devices cause this application to sleep).

Save data in Secure Folder

We all save important data on our phones and Samsung offers a way to keep it all locked up. It's called Secure Folder and it only takes a few seconds to set up. Just choose a new unlock method, decide if you need fingerprints or a retinal scanner, and wait for the encrypted container to be created. Secure Folder can store files as well as copies of apps from your phone with completely separate data directories. Secure Folder even has a camera app, and yes, the photos it takes are saved to Secure Folder. This is the perfect place to store sensitive data that you don't want to show to others.

According to Greenbot

Samsung has tried to concentrate all the technological trends of our time in its top smartphones Galaxy S8 and S8 +. This is a curved display, and a retinal scanner, and a "night mode". Of course, to match the hardware and software interface. We will talk about it today, more precisely, about its hidden and non-obvious possibilities. So what's in store for the new Galaxy S8 and S8+ interface?

Navigation Bar Secrets

The navigation bar on the Galaxy S8 and S8 has a few tricks up its sleeve, including allowing users to bypass the device's lock screen and instantly access the home screen.

To do this, you need to activate the unlock from the Home button in the settings - Settings > Display > Navigation bar. Now a strong press on Home will unlock the device, and a double press will force it to block. In addition, the user can hide the navigation bar in applications where it does not automatically retract, as well as configure it to suit their tastes. In some applications, the navigation bar can disappear completely, to call it you need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

Screen edge

The screen edges on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ give you access to apps, news, and key features by letting you display apps, shortcuts, and notifications on the curved edges of the screen. In addition, there are notifications in the form of luminous strips along the edges, so you will not miss a message even if the smartphone is face down. The same mode works well during game battles.

Users can access screen edge settings by selecting H Settings > Display > Screen edges.

Creating Convenient Reminders

Found interesting articles that you would like to see later? The Galaxy S8 allows users to simply save URLs with a reminder feature. To do this, click on the icon Reminder in stock browser. The URL is saved automatically, and you can also set the time for the reminder to appear.

In addition, the smartphone allows you to create reminders in instant messengers. To do this, click on the menu item Message options and select a sub-item Send a reminder. Finally, you can pin reminders to the display. To do this, select an application Reminders, select the desired reminder from the list and select Always On Screen.

Power buttons and camera

Sometimes you only have a couple of seconds to take a good photo. On the Galaxy S8 and S8+, double-click the power button to instantly launch the camera. You can zoom in on the same photo from the camera application by dragging the shutter button left and right.

In addition to unlocking the device, the fingerprint scanner allows users to open apps and control key functions. A simple swipe down or up will show or hide the notification bar, and a swipe from the screen to the sensor on the home screen will launch Samsung Pay. The function can be found under Settings > Advanced features > Fingerprint gestures.

If you cannot answer the call, you can reject it by sending pre-formatted messages. For this, a heart rate sensor is used - a double tap will send a message. The setting is done like this: Settings > Display > Screen edge > Lighting > More options > Quick reply.

Screenshots of the game

To quickly take a screenshot of the game and merge the batch, you need to press the volume down button and the power button. You can also swipe the screen from edge to edge, and then select an area of the screen to save.

Customizable in Settings > Additional features > Smart capture

Pin an app as part of a window

A new feature on the S8 allows users to select a portion of the last opened app to pin to the top of the screen. For example, it can be a video or stock reports. This allows you to keep two applications on the screen at the same time. To launch, you need to click the arrow button in the application header.

Chip to unlock

If you are using a retinal scanner, then in the authorization window you can select different masks for this. Not too interesting, but still - for sure someone will like it. You can find it here: Settings > Lock screen & security > Retinal scanner > Mask preview screen.

Samsung Cloud offers users an easy way to share large video clips and photos with other users. The feature supports FullHD videos and files up to 1GB in size. Users can save up to 2GB of content per day. After two days of storage, the files will be deleted from the server.

Users can also grant other users access to shared content by sending them a code. Those who receive the code will be able to view the materials at the link.

Of course, this is not all the chips, but we will talk about others sometime next time.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 phone was released relatively long ago by industry standards - March 29, 2017. But thanks to the power reserve provided by the manufacturer, it remains a relevant smartphone to this day. The model differs from its predecessors in an enlarged screen, as well as the absence of a home button. It is replaced by a tactile element - it is located under the glass. A similar technology is used on the iPhone 7. Reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S8 are positive, users liked it.

The design of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is somewhat different from its counterparts. The first thing you should pay attention to is that there is no Samsung inscription above the screen. The company's engineers simply could not find a place for it. At the same time, the shape of the smartphone is unique, there are no analogues in terms of design on the market today. What distinguishes the owner of the phone from other smartphone users.

The flagship itself is made of glass and metal. When using, be careful. The device is not only slippery, but also instantly covered with fingerprints. It is worth using napkins more often - this will keep the attractive appearance of the smartphone throughout the day. The glass covers the entire front and back of the case. The frame is made of metal.

The model is presented simultaneously in several colors:

  • ⦁ golden;
    ⦁ blue;
    ⦁ gray;
    ⦁ black

The columns are gone from the back. The case itself is assembled as reliably as possible. But there is a small gap between the glass of the front panel and the metal frame. The nail does not go there. But dust gets in easily. This is especially unpleasant if the phone is in black. Pollution will immediately become visible against a dark background.

On the back cover there is a fingerprint sensor - right next to the lens. Moreover, the latter is now made on the same level with the plane of the body. There is a heart rate monitor, as well as an oxygen saturation analyzer of the user's body.

A smartphone is a good solution for those who go in for sports. It is possible to keep a training diary, to take automatic measurements of your body. Stylish and expensive housing will distinguish the owner of the S8 from other smartphone users.

Design and ergonomics

The curve of the Samsung Galaxy S8 case strongly resembles the geometry of the Note 7. But at the same time, the model in question is small and fits comfortably in the hand. Comparing the Samsung Galaxy S8 to its closest competitor, the iPhone 8, is easy in terms of specs and looks. The dimensions of the model are relatively small:

  • length - 148.9 mm;
  • width - 68.1 mm;
  • thickness - 8 mm.

Moreover, the weight is only 152 g. The model will look great both in a strong male palm and thin female fingers. The device is universal. The geometry of the case and the location of the "home" button make it comfortable for everyone, regardless of the length of the fingers and the width of the palm. The S8 doesn't feel big. The main reason for this is that it is slightly elongated compared to its counterparts with the same screen size.

Thanks to good balance, it is convenient to work with the phone, despite the sloping body, it does not slip out. On the left side there are "swings" that allow you to easily adjust the volume. There is also a special key to launch the Bixby assistant. It does not work in our country. But you can find a special application on Google Play that allows you to easily reassign a button to another action.

Display

The screen of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the first thing that attracts attention. Moreover, developers and marketers jointly even came up with a special name for it - Infinity Display. The display occupies 97% of the front area of the body, has a resolution of QHD + (2960 × 1440 pixels). The installed screen is of very high quality, there are no dots.

When assembling, SuperAmoled matrices were used. This is the latest generation, improved in comparison with those used in the Note 7 model. Significant changes have been made to the automatic brightness control algorithm, depending on ambient lighting conditions. Specialists have finalized a mode called AlwaysOn Display. The buttons placed on the screen are hidden when applications are running. The diagonal of the display is exactly 5.8 inches.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 model began to use technologies that were previously only used in the development of TVs. In addition, the phone itself constantly analyzes the image present on the screen. There is not only an indicator of the amount of light, but also an RGB color analyzer. He independently, without user intervention, adjusts the screen tones in accordance with external conditions.

The use of Mobile HDR Premium technology should also be attributed to serious advantages over competitors. It was developed literally in 2017 specifically for devices that support 4K resolution. According to experts, the screen in the Galaxy S8 is the most technologically advanced in the world. Its main differences:

  • automatic brightness adjustment sets 1000 candelas at maximum illumination - you can easily read even small text under sunlight;
  • DCI-P3 Color is used - also used in 4K TVs;
  • there are simultaneously 2 sensors that analyze the amount of light - on both front panels;
  • night mode eliminates the presence of blue color in the glow spectrum - this allows you to avoid excessive excitement of the psyche;
  • a separate circuit for working with Always On technology is built-in - which can significantly save battery power.

Equipment

The package contains a standard list of items:

  1. the smartphone itself;
  2. a device for connecting to a 220 V electrical network for recharging the battery;
  3. paperclip - allows you to remove the tray to place a SIM card in it;
  4. headset type AKG - wired type;
  5. special adapter - for connecting additional equipment - OTG;
  6. instruction.

The OTG cable deserves special attention. With it, you can connect various external devices to your smartphone. Including all kinds of media. These are USB flash drives, as well as other equipment. The AKG headset allows you to listen to music. She cannot boast of an impressive sound. But for watching movies, video from the Internet is perfect. The device is delivered in a cardboard box.

Specifications Samsung Galaxy S8

Even a year after its release, the device is still relevant. Perhaps this is due to the characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy S8:

  • CPU – Exynos 8895, 8 cores, 2.3 GHz frequency each;
  • built-in video accelerator - Mali-G71 MP20;
  • the amount of RAM (RAM) - 4 GB;
  • the amount of ROM (permanent memory) - 64 GB (several GB are deducted for installing the operating system).

It must be remembered that the model is produced for different markets with different technical characteristics. For example, the Chinese version is supplied not with 4, but with 6 GB of RAM. In the US, the exclusive Samsung Galaxy S8 is being sold on the Snapdragon 835 processor. That is why some devices show higher results in various synthetic tests.

Performance

Various software tests do not always show how fast the Samsung Galaxy S8 is. But it is worth noting that there is no gap between clicking on the application icon and launching it. Even compared to the S7 and Note 7, which have never had any complaints in terms of speed, the S8 wins a lot.

Separately, it is worth highlighting the changes in terms of memory. The improvement can already be seen from the transition from UFS 2.0 to UFS 2.1. This allows you to significantly reduce the time required to boot your smartphone. In addition, the switching time between different applications is reduced to a minimum. It was S8 that became the first Samsung device equipped with UFS 2.1 memory.

Among users of alternative devices, there is still a rumor about the slowness of smartphones from Samsung. But such stereotypes are usually the result of installing a huge amount of third-party software on the device. The Samsung Galaxy S8 review will give you an idea of the actual performance of the device.

cameras

Using the device to take pictures and record videos is appropriate - the camera of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is worthy of all praise. The resolution of the front is as much as 8 megapixels, while it is fast aperture. The maximum aperture size is f/1.7. Due to which the pictures, even with a significant lack of light, can be made bright and sharp. There are many built-in effects.

It seems to many that the main camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels has remained the same. DualPixel technology is used. As with earlier models, Sony is the supplier. Separately, it is necessary to dwell on the increased system performance. Photos of the Samsung Galaxy S8 are more saturated. The camera model has its own memory.

Due to which the speed of work increases by an order of magnitude. There is also a comfort mode called Burst Mode. Thanks to him, you can take several dozen pictures in a row. The high performance of the system allows the camera to focus faster, better work out complex scenes. This is especially noticeable in comparison with the Galaxy S7.

Photo

A special feature of Samsung Galaxy S8 photography is the ability to form a panorama with an impressive 50.6 megapixels. Which makes the picture quality just fantastic.

A high power LED flash will illuminate the shadows, as well as make the subject more detailed in the shadows.

Video

Shooting videos on the Samsung Galaxy S8 is just as good as taking photos. There is the ability to shoot video up to Ultra HD resolution. Recording is done at 60 frames per second. There is electronic image stabilization. But only in Full HD mode. In night mode, the video will also please the user of the smartphone. Dynamic range, vibrant colors and good range detail at high ISO all make shooting easy and fun.

Front-camera

The characteristics of the front camera in comparison with the external one cannot be called outstanding. But it offers quite acceptable results. Perfect for taking pictures of yourself while traveling.

Care must be taken to work in rooms with insufficient lighting. It all depends on the amount of light, other factors.

Sound and music playback quality

The sound of the Samsung Galaxy S8 deserves special attention. Since Samsung uses a completely new development in its smartphone. It constantly analyzes the actions performed by the user. For example, if the owner of a smartphone is talking on Skype, then the volume in the headphones automatically increases. It also cuts off all frequencies, extraneous noise - which can interfere with communication.

In addition, the smartphone constantly evaluates the sound level around the device itself. Automatic adjustment to the situation is carried out. Moreover, the sound processor does not carry out all these actions, only an amplifier is used to solve the tasks.

Another "trick" of the model is the automatic recognition of repetitive sounds. For example, if the headphones constantly rub against clothes, skin, then the device tries to clean out such noises from the music when listening to it. The sound quality depends on the headphones used, as well as sound profiles - which are applied in a particular case.

Samsung has designed and assembled the supplied headset in accordance with the specifications of the S8. All the charms of musical compositions are perfectly revealed thanks to the DSP Cirrus Logic SC43130. The main feature of the module is its versatility, it fits well with most headphones - without any exceptions.

Communication options

Like competitors, Samsung Galaxy S8 supports USB Type C version 3.0. This is the first smartphone of its year of release where the latest generation Bluetooth communication protocol - 5.0 is present. There is also aptX, as well as other built-in audio codecs for audio playback. There is an LTE module, the frequencies used will depend on the specific operator, as well as the country of operation of the device. Moreover, in the LTE category network, the device shows the maximum possible data download speed.

In the network on the territory of Moscow with the mobile operator MTS, the speed obtained by downloading reached 430 Mbit / s. Moreover, the theoretical limit of this indicator is only 450 Mbps. There is dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11. There are simply no major improvements from Samsung in this direction.

operating system

At the time of the release of the device, the latest operating system, Android 7.0, was installed on it. A proprietary shell Experiense 8.1 is installed on top. It functions quickly enough, there is a proprietary animation. In some ways, it is similar to similar effects in Windows.

The GPU processes all actions in the operating system as quickly as possible, without delays and "brakes", artifacts on the screen.

autonomy

The standard battery of the Samsung Galaxy S8 has a capacity of 3,500 mAh. Charging can be done in two ways:

  • via a standard USB Type C connector;
  • using a wireless charger.

Moreover, in the second case, recharging is carried out automatically - you just need to place the device on a special wireless station. Separately, several energy saving profiles should be noted. They have become more aggressive. This allows you to save battery, extend the life of the device. For example, the video playback time is 18-19 hours with maximum brightness.

Smartphone pros and cons

Samsung Galaxy S8 has its pros and cons. The main advantages include:

  1. elongated display - this makes it convenient to use;
  2. well-fitted parts, bright screen;
  3. high-quality cameras, the ability to shoot video in Ultra HD resolution;
  4. comfortable interface and performance;
  5. notification indicator, protection against dust and moisture;
  6. external speaker volume.

There are also obvious downsides. The Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone in the review is considered in detail, the main disadvantages include:

  1. easily soiled case - fingerprints always remain;
  2. the rear glass is highly prone to scratches;
  3. if you use a smartphone for games, then the edge of the USB connector constantly rubs your finger;
  4. fragile design requires the use of a cover;
  5. lack of a convenient way to quickly unlock the device.

In general, all the disadvantages are easily offset by a large number of advantages. The device perfectly copes with all the functions assigned to it.

Comparison with competitors

The main competitor in this price category for the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the iPhone 8. Comparison of the device by the main parameters:

  • the display on the S8 is 5.8 inches versus 4.7 on the iPhone 8. The advantages of Samsung's product are not only in size, but in more advanced technology and resolution;
  • in terms of performance, the Snapdragon 835 processor is one step lower than the A11 Bionic. Apple's products in this industry are products of a completely different category (this is easily confirmed by the Geekbench test);
  • cameras of these devices give almost identical results. The Apple product has some advantage in brighter lighting;
  • The wireless charging station comes standard with Samsung products. For an Apple product, you will need to purchase it separately;
  • in terms of offline mode, both devices will not let their users down. Samsung Galaxy S8 lasts 1 hour longer in active talk mode.

In general, both devices will be an excellent solution. But it is worth remembering that there are differences in performance, as well as functionality. It is important to take into account the cardinal differences in operating systems.

Final review

Despite the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S8 model was released relatively long ago (more than 1 year ago), it is still in high demand in stores. The reason for this is good performance, high-quality pictures and long work without recharging. It is worth remembering that using this device without a case threatens to scratch the rear glass. There are other nuances of operation.

Samsung Galaxy S8 shows good performance regardless of the installed processor. Communication quality is at the highest level. The ability to work with Wi-Fi in two bands at the same time deserves special attention. Another advantage is that the cost of the model has decreased significantly within a year after the release.
